About RSS, aggregators, news feeds & R|Mail :

Finding it hard to stay updated of the latest news and conversations on the internet ? You're not alone. The number of sites and people producing content has grown over the years to an unmanageable size. Fortunately, you can now separate the signal from the noise with subscriptions to sites you enjoy and with newsreaders that can filter only the important news you need to get around.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other web content. Think of it as a distributable "What's New" for your site. Created by UserLand in 1997, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more).

An RSS news Feed is an XML-based document which contains a sequence of content items, usually a short informational story or post, possibly with a link to a more extensive story on a web site. Blogs and news websites are common sources for feeds. Instead of having to search sites for news manually, the news is 'collected' for you and delivered on your desktop.

A news aggregator is a software application, webpage or service that collects syndicated content from disparate sources and provides a consolidated view. Such applications are also referred to as feed readers, feed aggregators or simply aggregators.

A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can check RSS-enabled webpages on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that it finds. It is now common to find RSS feeds on major web sites, as well as many smaller ones.

You can also subscribe to an RSS feed with your e-mail address and receive the latest additions in those feeds in your inbox. R|Mail is a service that delivers those messages. All you need is the RSS-link which you have to paste in the box and enter your e-mail address.

R|Mail. You'll love it.
